The Cara Group operates a planned and systematic approach to Health & Safety.
Regular site safety inspections by permanent health and safety officers are
carried out across the group. This incorporates the use of inductions, method
statements, risk assessments, on and off site training and regular ongoing
reviews.
The Company operates its own internal training and development plan in order to implement new methods to improve competency and refresh safety knowledge within its workforce. This proactive approach to safety keeps the Cara Group working effectively maintaining a significantly low accident/incident rate, which is a considerable achievement for a company within the construction industry.
Another proactive approach to safety saw the implementation of the ‘Driving Safety Home’ campaign. This campaign aimed at raising an even greater awareness for employees to work and operate in a safe manner, reinforcing the benefits this will produce in their lives.
Formal training is carried out at Cara’s in-house training school or externally at specialist centres. Courses are offered across the following areas.
Cara believe that the Company’s employees are its greatest assets and therefore continuously invest in them to complement and enhance their skills and work knowledge which motivates the workforce to work more efficiently and achieve their true potential.
The Investors in People award offers a framework to ensure that these criteria are achieved. As an integral part of the Investors in People status, the company strives to ensure that employees achieve relevant qualifications in their chosen fields whilst gaining and enhancing their experience. Working closely with the CITB, Cara is able to offer a wide range of training to all employees.
Company policy is to achieve complete CSCS attainment for all employees, offering progression through a range of NVQ qualifications. The Company has previously been awarded the CSCS Certification of Commitment Gold Standard due to the high level of employees currently trained and competent in Health and Safety.
The Cara Group recognizes the acute skills shortage in the construction industry and has for a number of years completed between five and ten apprenticeships on an annual basis.
